CANCELLATION OF OKAMICON (ALL EVENTS!)

8 Feb

Due to my recent transfer out of state, I will no longer be able to maintain both OkamiCon Nevada and OkamiCon Utah. As a result, both events have been canceled  and suspended indefinitely. This includes the following planned events:

OkamiCon Nevada 2013 – May 17th and 18th, 2013

—————————-

For Those Who Have Pre-Registered:
You have been issued a full refund VIA PAYPAL. I have also sent a confirmation email to the email address used for purchase, stating that a refund has been issued.

For PAID Vendors: Vendors will be receiving a full refund of their booth purchase price within the next few weeks. This refund will be issued BY CHECK and will be mailed to the address on file. An email notification of the refund will also be issued.

Thank you again for everyone who has attended our previous events.

For anyone who is interested in purchasing left over supplies (including our sound system) please contact me at WHITEWOLF @ OKAMICON.COM (remove spaces).

Starting The New Year – Anime SG Will All Be OkamiCon

12 Dec

This is now official notice as to not to confuse anyone in the very near future: Starting January 1st, 2013, the URL for Anime St. George webpage and blog (www.animesg.net and http://www.animesg.com respectively) will no longer be functional. After that date, you will need to go to the main OkamiCon Webpage (www.okamicon.com) for both OkamiCon Utah and OkamiCon Nevada information, registration, etc. Both pages for Utah and Nevada are separated so simply click the link on the splash page for the one you wish to visit.

That also being sad, all of our other social media accounts for Anime SG are also going to be deleted or closed starting the first of the year. This includes the ASG WordPress Blog, Facebook and Twitter. I have tried to encourage everyone to follow our new social media pages for OkamiCon and post announcements that the others will be closing, however, people still insist on liking, following or subscribing to ones that are no longer updated.

If you have not yet liked the new OkamiCon Facebook or Twitter, you can do so by following the little feeds here on the main page of this blog (OkamiCon Blog) or by the feeds from the OkamiCon Webpage.

Also, for those who are curious, the photos from the Anime St. George Facebook Albums have all been moved over to OkamiCon so please feel free to go and re-tag yourself or your friends.

OkamiCon Nevada Dates for 2013

16 Nov

So the moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived. It took a little longer then expected because life sometimes likes to jump out and kick you in the gonads. However, despite a busy work life, some nasty bug I still haven’t quite gotten rid of, and temperamental HTML code, the new OkamiCon Nevada website is up and functional along with the new dates for next year.

Things were a bit touch and go there for a while and there was a moment when I thought we would have to be suspended a year but everything has worked out quite pleasantly. We now have a new home and new double dates for your fandom enjoyment.

So the new dates for OkamiCon Nevada 2013 are…*drum roll*

May 17th & 18th, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Express

Unfortunately we will not be returning to Casablanca as they wanted me to sell a kidney to pay for the rooms. While I know a person can function with only one kidney, I would rather leave both of them intact and where they are so, that is why we have changed locations (for those who are curious). The Holiday Inn Express has been fabulous in working with us so far and we will pretty much be taking over the entire lobby and meeting areas. So far we have:

  • Two Vendor Rooms (Sunset Mesa and Falcon West)
  • Activity and Event Room (Falcon East)
  • Screening Room (Arcade Room)

Yes, you did read that correctly. Screenings will take place in the Arcade which is being set up to fit our needs. Also, for those of you who are staying at the hotel, you will be eating breakfast in the same area that will be set up to be our Activity and Events Room. A rather entertain and curious fact.

Regarding Vendors: I am still waiting on a layout of the Exhibit halls so I can put together a vendor map for both rooms. Booth registration should be opening around November 30th, give or take a few days.

So the OkamiCon Nevada webpage has been completely redesigned and updated with the new information. The design has it’s own special flare while still having a uniform layout to match the OkamiCon Utah page. Also, the OkamiCon.Com splash page will now give you an option to choose which convention page you would live to view (either Utah or Nevada).

There are still a few things that need to be done and updated which I will get to once I start feeling better:

  • Okami Promotions Webpage (need to update event information)
  • OkamiCon Utah Page (new dates, event information, etc.)
  • OkamiCon Blog (change a few things around to reflect both conventions)

As I am sure you have already noticed, the blog has a new look itself. There are still some updates that need to be made with the  blog pages as I am going to change them completely around, but that will come in the next few weeks.

One Page, One Mind

26 Aug

I like how Facebook gets smart, then stupid and then becomes smart again. While exploring the settings of my various Facebook pages for Anime SG and OkamiCon Nevada, I came across something that was not there before; the ability to change the username of one of your pages ONCE. This magical ability was not granted to us before. However, this gave me the perfect opportunity to fix an issue that had been bothering me for a little while…

Back when I created the first OkamiCon Page (OkamiCon Nevada) the username/Facebook URL ‘OkamiCon’ was taken by another short lived group who had sense changed their name and abandoned the page after they realized that there was already an OkamiCon present. As such, I grabbed up the username OkamiConNV. I had no notions of changing Anime SG to OkamiCon Utah at the time so it was fine.

However, now that we have OkamiCon Utah on the way, as well as the possibility of having an OkamiCon Arizona in the distant future, I was faced with a predicament; I did not want to have to manage all these different face book pages for all of these events but I could not all send them to OkamiConNV. Then I discovered the ability to CHANGE the Username of the ever growing OkamiCon Nevada page. Now I have the ability to consolidate everything all into one!

So now, the Facebook page that you have known the past few months as OkamiCon Nevada has been renamed back to plain ol’ OkamiCon and the URL has changed to OkamiConConventions. All of those who have already gone ahead and liked our OkamiCon Utah page, please go ahead and like the new standard OkamiCon Facebook Page.

Thanks everyone for being patient while we fix things around and get them settled! Remember to come to next month’s event Anime St. George at the Best Western Abbey Inn on September 29th, 2012 in St. George Utah! The dates for OkamiCon Nevada 2013 will be announced then!

Thanks for Coming to OkamiCon 2012!

25 May

Late post is a little late, I know but…

Thank you everyone for attending OkamiCon 2012!

We had a wonderful turn out this year and I am happy to be reading messages on Facebook about how much fun everyone had. I am already starting to hash out details with our venue for our OkamiCon ’13. Here is what I can tell you at this point:

-OkamiCon WILL be returning to Mesquite, NV.
-We will be going two days next year.
-We will most likely be during mid-may again.
-We are revamping our setup to make things more fun for not only attendees but for dealers as well.
-OkamiCon in Mesquite is not going to be our only OkamiCon event.

The last one is meant to be a little teaser. 😉 More information on our second OkamiCon event will be trickling out over the next few weeks so stay tune!

FUNimation Entertainment is truly awesome for supporting OkamiCon and many of our other events we hold throughout the year! Remember to support them by buying their products and watching more of their great anime.

On a side note, I have been watching some of these shows myself and Vandread is highly recommended. I know what was just added to my Netflix Instate Queue! 😀

Pre-Registration Closed.

1 May

Pre-Registration is now officially closed. Congratulations to those lucky individuals who managed to send in their pre-registration late last night. I applaud you and it warms my heart to see those payment notification messages in my email inbox. ^-^

For those of you who were hoping that you would be able to register today before the form was taken offline, I’m sorry to say that you are out of lucky because it was just removed. However, you can get a badge at the convention; you will just have to wait inline or come for early badge registration at 9:00AM on Saturday.

Please Remember!: It is required that you show valid identification and your PayPal Receipt when picking up your badge. We will not give you your badge without both!

On another note, Online Signups for the Moonlight Masquerade will be closing on Saturday May 5th along with Dealer Booth Registration. If you were not able to sign up for the Moonlight Masquerade online, than you will still be able to sign up at the Contest Table the day of OkamiCon. The number of entries for the Masquerade is capped at 25 unless otherwise stated. Special awards will be given to the top three winners of the Masquerade (1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place).

I will be sending out confirmation emails for Pre-Registrations and Masquerade Entry Forms, so if you haven’t gotten yours yet, it is on its way.

Last Chance for Pre-Registration!

30 Apr

OkamiCon 2012 is just around the corner! That means with May 1st ready to sneak up and bash us over the head with a mallet, today is your last change for Pre-Registration for the event.

Why Should You Pre-Register?

Those who pre-register on our website prior to the event are set to get all kind awesome goodies! While this doesn’t mean that our staff will be giving you a foot massage, this does mean that you will get:

  1. $5 Discount off the At-Door Price. (This means you only pay $15 instead of $20!)
  2. Custom name printed on your badge. (Normal people just have ‘all day pass’ on their badges).
  3. By Pass the registration process.
  4. Avoid the long line by simply walking up to badge pickup with your I.D. in hand!

Now tell me, why would you not want to pre-register with all those awesome perks? That’s what I thought! So what are you waiting for? Go over to our website www.okamicon.com and click on the registration tab to get your pre-registration before tomorrow. You will be glad you did!

OkamiCon Announces Third Round of Guests!

26 Apr

MESQUITE, NV – With the long awaited event less than a month away, OkamiCon announces the last of two guests that will be joining the multi-genre convention on May 19th, 2012 at the Casablanca Resort and Casino in Mesquite, Nevada.

Anastasia Jablokov
Anastasia Jablokov will be attending OkamiCon 2012 as special cosplay guest and judge for the Moonlight Masque. Also known as MangaFreak150 on the internet, Ana started cosplaying in 2008 and hasn’t stopped since. She is a fan of manga (hence the name) and her favorite animes are Cardcaptor Sakura and Black Rock Shooter. To learn the tricks of the trade in cosplaying, make sure you check out Ana’s panel Cosplaying 101.

Special Guest – Nathan Hanks with Katie and Sophie
When Nathan Hanks ask if you want to see his snake, he means it literary! Nathan Hanks will be joining the OkamiCon 2012 guest lineup along with his beautiful and charming pair of Burmese Pythons, Katie and Sophie.

Nathan has loved snakes his entire life and has owned Pythons for 15 years. While he has owned a variety of other large snakes such as Boa Constrictors, Anacondas and other breeds of Python, the Burmese Python breed will always grip a special place in his heart. Nathan believes that Pythons are one of the most misunderstood animals in the world and enjoys taking opportunities to help separate myth from fact. He does all this with the help of his two lovely ladies: Katie, a 7 year-old, 12 foot long Albino Burmese Python and Sophie, a 9 year-old, 10 foot regular Burmese Python. Of course it is rude to ask a lady her weight, but these gals clock in at about 50 pounds each!

You can find Nathan and his two scaly sweet hearts hanging out in our Outrigger Dealer’s Room. Make sure you stop by throughout the day for his discussions and educational information on Burmese Pythons, as well as hold and have your picture taken with these slithery beauties!

Dealers and Artists Registration Reopen!

29 Mar

Due to popular demand, our Dealers Room and Artist Alley has been expanded to now include two rooms: The Northshore and The Outrigger. If you missed out on your opportunity to register your space the first time around, how you have a second chance!

The Outrigger Room will be located next to our Screening Room while the Northshore will be located next to the Panel Room. Even though the Outrigger is slightly smaller than the Northshore, it will include 10 additional spaces, 5 of which are still available to aspiring artists or dealers looking to sell their wares. What more, the Outrigger room is also featuring some fun activities such as our TCG Tournament and Free Play Table and the K.O.M.A Video Game Tournament Table (Announcement on that coming soon.) Also make sure to stop by the table of our affiliate convention Combat Con because I hear they will be raffling off tickets to their awesome convention in July down in Las Vegas.

OkamiCon.com has already been updated to reflect these new changes and Dealer // Artist Registration has been reopened and extended until May 5th, 2012. Additional Updates for events will be coming with April’s Developer Diary as well as Pre-Registration for Anime St. George.
